12 Day Uganda Gorilla Trekking and Wildlife Tour itinerary:

Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport on the shores of Lake Victoria for the 12 Day Uganda Gorilla Trekking and Wildlife Tour, you are met by your driver guide and driven a short distance to your lodging for the first night in Uganda.
Overnight the Boma Guest House / Karibu Guest House

Day 02 : Drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Rhino trek
After breakfast, you driver guide for the safari will pick you up from the hotel, you should be ready to leave by 7:00 am. You will then drive through Kampala suburbs driving north to Nakasongola to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to arrive before noon. You will then check into your tented accommodation that is elevated on a platform offering good views. You can decide to take a dip into the pool and simply enjoy your surroundings.

Afternoon Rhino Trekking -a trained ranger will meet you and give you an introduction to the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary. Depending on the location of the Rhinos, you will drive to the starting point and then approach the Rhinos on foot. You will then observe the Rhinos in a natural habitat at a close and safe distance. The Rhino trek excursion takes 1 -2 hours. You are advised to wear closed Shoes, Long Pants, and no bright colored clothing during the Rhino Trek.

Day 03: Canoe ride or Swamp walk before Drive to Murchison Falls NP
After breakfast, you have a choice of Nature Walk which includes wildlife and birds, or a boat ride through Lugogo Swamp. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is one of the best places in Uganda for spotting the Shoebill Stork. There are many waterbirds as well found in the swamp that is part of Ziwa Santuary, you can also spot the elusive, semi-aquatic Sitatunga Antelope found in and around the swamp.

Later you will continue on the drive to Murchison Falls National Park. If time allows, you can visit the top of the falls. Otherwise this can be done tomorrow after the boat trip by hiking to the top of the falls or on the day you leave for Kibale Forest.

Day 04: Game Drives, Launch cruise
Early morning safari drive before the sun rises in the Buligi, Albert and Queen’s track, you will see plenty of game. The tracks are found on the northern banks of the River Nile. Return to the lodge.

In the afternoon you will enjoy a boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison Falls. Hippos and crocodiles are abundant and you will see elephants and buffaloes, waterbucks and birds like Herons, Cormorants, Ducks, bee eaters, fish eagles, king fishers and the rare shoebills. The boat trip to the falls and back takes 3 hours.

Return to the lodge. If you are physically fit instead of returning by boat to the base you can decide to hike to the top of the falls instead. You vehicle and guide will be waiting for you at the top of the falls to drive you back to the lodge.

Day 05: Drive to Kibale Forest
After breakfast, you will embark on a long drive to the western side of the country, to Kibale Forest National Park. This is a beautiful, forested area, which links into the QENP eco system. You will spend one night here, allowing time in the morning to trek chimpanzees. This will be a long drive of approximately 8 – 9 hours. You will arrive late in the afternoon.

Day 06: Chimpanzee tracking /Drive to Queen Elizabeth Park
After an early breakfast, you will be driven down to the Kibale Forest National Parks’ headquarters to meet your guides for who will accompany you to trek chimpanzees. You will find the forest alive with noise and you should be lucky enough to see the habituated chimps during your trek.

The trek generally takes most of the morning, and then return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, depart the Kibale area for Queen Elizabeth N.P. You will drive passed the Rwenzori mountains if lucky on a clear day you will have nice views of the Rwenzori mountain.

Queen Elizabeth has a diverse Eco-systems of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers and swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to incredible abundance of wildlife. Lions, leopards, elephants, cape buffalos, forest hogs, Uganda kobs, giant forest hogs, bush backs, water backs, with this vast arrays of Uganda wildlife.

Day 07:Game drives/ launch trip on Kazinga Channel
Wake up very early in the morning and head out for a game drive in the Kasenyi track and Queen’s mile in the park. During the game drive you may spot game like the lion, leopard, Uganda kob, elephants, cape buffalos, waterbucks and many other animals. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Later visit the Katwe salt pans.

In the afternoon there will be a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel. On this cruise you will see a high concentration of hippos and many other animals can be seen drinking at the water’s edge. If time allows, you can go for another game drive.

Day 08: Ishasha tree climbing lion search
Today travel to Ishasha area of the park in search of the tree climbing lions, and other wildlife. Check into Ishasha Wilderness camp. After lunch enjoy an afternoon game drive in the beautiful Queen Elizabeth National Park, hoping to spot tree-climbing lions and a host of other wildlife.

Day 09: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Breakfast, game drive leaving Queen Elizabeth park and heading for Bwindi Impenetrable forest.
As you make your way out of the Rift Valley through the Kigezi Highlands of south western Uganda. The scenery is increasingly more breathtaking as you drive up and down the Kigezi hills. You will arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, in time for lunch. In the afternoon you may take a community walk ($25 per person) to visit the Native Batwa community or a waterfall walk (US$70 per person) (optional activities)
Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world.

Day 10: Gorilla Trekking day in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Take an early morning breakfast, then head to the park headquarters for briefing, orientation and meeting the guides, you will then be separated into groups depending on which gorilla group given. Each group if full will have a maximum of 8 trackers. The guide will lead you through the gorilla paths in the thick Bwindi Impenetrable rain forests searching for gorillas.

Once gorillas are tracked you will be given one hour interaction and taking photos. You need to take with you a packed lunch and at least 2 litres of drinking water.
After tracking the gorillas return to your accommodation.

Day 11: drive to Lake Mburo Park
After breakfast, you will game drive out of Bwindi Park and drive to Lake Mburo. En-route you will have a stop in Mbarara for lunch. Later continue to Lake Mburo park enjoying a game drive as you drive to your accommodation right inside the park.

Day 12: drive to Entebbe / Departure
Breakfast, game drive before your return to Entebbe (optional activity this morning is a nature walk ($30 per person); stop at the equator for photo opportunities and curio shopping en route, drop off at the Entebbe airport to connect with your international flight out.
